Is goofy a cow or a dog? Since its inception in 1923, Disney has produced dozens of well-known characters, including princesses like Cinderella and Jasmine and others like Mickey Mouse and Lightning McQueen. While it’s easy to tell what each of the other characters is supposed to represent, Goofy can be a bit of a mystery. Due to his close friendship with Clarabelle Cow on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, some viewers have incorrectly concluded that he is a cow. Many think of him as a dog, putting him in the same family as Pluto. In this light, who or what is Goofy? Since 1987, Bill Farmer has provided the voice for Goofy. Farmer recently told Yahoo that Goofy is “not a dog.” In Farmer’s words, “Pluto” is a canine. In contrast, Goofy “seems to be in the canine family” without being classified as such. Canis Goofus is the Latin name for Goofy, so he’s not just a dog or a cow, as the Farmer claims. In a word, he’s goofy.
